Katherine, Watercolorist Practicing Watercolor Painting

I’m Katherine J. Ford, a watercolor artist drawn to the quiet beauty found in careful work and close observation. Through years of teaching and shared learning—most notably through Lineworkers, a fly fishing education initiative I facilitate—I’ve spent countless hours watching hands at work, studying rhythm, patience, and the small decisions involved in making things by hand. That attention to process shapes my paintings, whether I’m capturing a natural form, a small sculptural object, or something marked by use and memory. While some subjects come from the fishing world, many people are drawn to the work simply for its color, balance, and sense of care. My goal is to create paintings that slow the viewer down and reveal beauty in detail often overlooked.
Dave Ford, Engineer

Papa Dave, as the grandchildren affectionately call him, is the engineer among us. He meticulously cuts the paper, aligns the pages, frames the pictures, arranges the storage, transports materials, prepares meals, and manages the household, providing me with the time and space for my creative endeavors. He is my most ardent admirer, my pillar of support, and the one who prays for our family’s direction. Without him, my doodles would remain mere pastimes at work.
