Description
Reel Study
This small watercolor explores the quiet form of a classic Spey-style fly reel. Seen up close, the reel becomes less about equipment and more about shape, balance, and light — a simple circle punctuated by the rhythm of its perforations and mechanical details.
Tools used in fly fishing often carry the memory of time on the water. Reels, flies, and other small objects become companions to the experience of rivers and seasons. In this painting, the reel is observed as both a functional tool and a sculptural form shaped by use.
Painted on board and sealed with wax, the 5 × 5-inch watercolor is mounted within a deep 12 × 12-inch frame, allowing the small image to hold presence while emphasizing the circular geometry of the reel.
